TYPING THE TRANSIT

Visit our full site at:

The Johnstown Type Writer Conservatory!

Venus makes first contact with the limb of the Sun.

Venus makes second contact inside the limb of the Sun.

At this point the transit is about half over or a little more.

The Sun and Venus start to set behind the Chirichahua Mountains. You can see the Yucca trees on the Mountain about 5 miles away.

Viewing the transit by projecting an image of the Sun and Venus (the dot at lower right) through binoculars.

The Sunday morning remnant in Richard's dining room. From left to right: Herman Price, Alan Seaver, Richard Polt (the really tall guy), Jett Morton (in front of Richard and a bit shorter), Me, Jack Knarr, Felicia Alexander, and Mike Brown.

Oliver no. 2, Date of manufacture, 1898. Which brought you the current Tlog.

One of the things I stupidly forgot to bring to Cincinnati was type writer letterhead I had made for the occasion. So, I'm posting it below for you to download and make your own stationery as Richard Polt has done on his site.

A Typist Goes to a Star Party

A partial view of the observing field at Cherry Springs, Thursday, May 26, just before the great storm hit.

My campsite with Vanessa before the great storm. Notice my late screen house attached to the back of my tent. on the far right is the 10 inch Newtonian that was toppled by the storm. Under the beige canopy in the rear, right, is Bob Masterson's 12 inch Newtonian. The canopy was another casualty of the storm.

Of course, no star party is complete without Willie Yee's Star Trek Prius/Shuttle craft, seen below.
