  1. Yes, and it should be noted that those handles are on opposite sides of the machine. This is so two people can have places to grab. If the Oliver folks had possessed the insights of today's "college bookbag" manufacturers, they would have included wheels on the carry cases!

In their defense, though, an Oliver will not "walk" across the desk while in use. See also Newton's law about an object at rest (especially a 28-pound object) staying at rest.

This is where I insert a paraphrase about an object with rust (my #9) tending toward staying rusty. I am still soaking parts in Evap-O-Rust, but it is a slow process.

  2. Well, I never said it was "easily" portable! Good luck with the evapo-rust and let us know how that goes. I have a no. 9 of my own which is waiting the evapo-rust treatment.

  3. All right, I'm sold, you analytic philosopher, you. (Though I tend to use the word "luggable" in regards to this class of typewriter.)

I've had very good luck with Evapo-Rust.

  4. Richard! I'm glad you've come over to the "dark" side! However, as Aristotle would say, Luggable is but a species of portable!
